MILWAUKEE –
Jordan Haskins (
Fr.-Lewisville, Texas) earned his first collegiate win and the Lakeland University men's wrestling team made hay in the heavier weight classes to score a dual win, defeating Milwaukee School of Engineering 26-13 Thursday night.
The Muskies won four of the six contested matches and added a pair of forfeit wins to defeat their College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival. Lakeland also defeated the Raiders for the second time in three years and avenged a decisive 41-12 loss to MSOE a year ago.
Haskins opened with an 11-3 major decision over Jacob Vice at 125 pounds for his first win.
Coleman Burgess (
Fr.-Hope Mills, N.C.) won by forfeit at 133 lbs., and
Aleksandar Pejovski (
Fr.-Merrillville, Ind.) scored a hard-fought 4-2 decision over Max Sanderfoot at 149 lbs. to give Lakeland a 13-3 lead in the match.
The Raiders picked up a forfeit win at 157 lbs., but the Muskies clinched the match with three consecutive wins starting with
Tyler Lovejoy (
So.-Brandon, Wis.), who topped Chris Botzoc by 10-2 major decision at 174 lbs.
Matt Crowley (
So.-Omro, Wis.) won by forfeit at 184 lbs., and
Chad Cowart (
Fr.-Antioch, Ill.) wrapped it up with a late two-point reversal the difference in a 5-4 decision over Jack Horihan at 197 lbs.
The Muskies now get ready for the CCIW Championships, to be held next Thursday in Wheaton, Ill.
