Series history: 20th meeting, Dominican leads 19-0
The Stars have long been the standard for Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference men's soccer, having won 12 regular season titles and 13 tournament titles in the league's 16 years of play. The Muskies have never beaten Dominican, including a 5-0 loss a year ago in River Forest, Ill. The teams' last meeting here at Taylor Field was one of the closest in the series, a 2-0 Stars win Sept. 29, 2018. The two closest matchups came in 2010 and 2011, when Dominican won by scores of 1-0 and 2-1 in consecutive years.
Lakeland last time out: Lost to St. Norbert 2-0 Wednesday
The Muskies fell behind early as the Green Knights scored twice in the first 21 minutes and held the lead the rest of the way. Lakeland had several quality chances in the second half, including a pair of shots by
Gavin Pinchart, one at an open goal that was swept away by a St. Norbert defender. The Muskies lost in their NACC opener and for the first time this season, ending what had been the program's best start through four games since 1982. Pinchart and
Michecadet Gethand both had two shots each to account for most of Lakeland's chances.
Ben Taylor made four saves in goal as SNC finished with a 17-5 advantage in shots, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.
Dominican last time out: Defeated Illinois Tech 2-1 Wednesday
The Stars opened their conference schedule with a win over the previously unbeaten Scarlet Hawks. John Cronnolly scored both Dominican goals less than five minutes apart in the first half, the second coming in the 22nd minute. IIT halved the lead in the 81st minute but the Stars held on in a game they largely controlled in the field with an 18-5 advantage in shot attempts. Oscar Cerritos made one save for Dominican, which is off to a 4-0-1 start with its lone blemish a tie against Webster (Mo.) Sept. 4.
