Series history:Â 14th meeting, Lawrence leads 13-0
The Muskies are still looking for their first-ever win in the series against Lawrence in a series that dates back to 1993, Lakeland's first year playing the sport at the varsity level. The teams met last year and the Vikings prevailed 3-0 Sept. 11, 2022 in Appleton, with Cambrie Rickard, Emma Vasconez and Madi Jones scoring goals. Lawrence also won the most recent meeting at Taylor Field, taking a 3-1 decision exactly two years ago when
Hanna Brouch scored a tying goal late in the first half but the Vikings tallied twice early in the second half. The Muskies are hosting the Vikings for the third time in the last four meetings, but Lawrence hosted eight of the first 11 meetings, including the first-ever on Sept. 20, 1993, a 13-0 Vikings win.
Lakeland last time out: Defeated Northland 5-0 Friday
The Muskies opened the season in fine fashion, defeating the LumberJills Friday afternoon to avenge a one-goal loss to Northland a year ago. An own goal late in the first half started the scoring and freshman
Taytum Theobald netted her first collegiate goal late in the half for a 2-0 lead. The Reyes sisters then took over in the second half, with
Marlen Reyes scoring once and then twin
Alondra Reyes tallying twice.
Faith Turley also made three saves in goal and combined with
Emilie Runkel for the shutout. Freshmen
Chloe Bartlett and
Mikayla Belasco also added assists in the game as the Muskies controlled play much of the way, outshooting the LumberJills 17-5.
Lawrence last time out: Lost to Concordia Wisconsin 1-0 Friday
The Vikings lost a tough one to the defending Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament champions, who scored their only goal in the 19th minute and held on the rest of the way. Lawrence came out strong with eight shot attempts in the first 16 minutes, including five shots on goal, but the Vikings were kept off the board despite a 14-13 shots advantage in the game. Audri Klionsky made six saves in goal for Lawrence.
The Vikings finished 8-9-1 overall last year and 3-4-1 in the Midwest Conference, just missing a spot in the conference tournament. Six starters return from last year's team, and Lawrence is playing the second of four straight matches against NACC teams to start the season.
