KENOSHA, Wis. –
Jax Lipnitz (
Fr.-St. Ignace, Mich.) recorded a pin among four wins for the Lakeland University men's wrestling team but Carthage College won just enough matches for a 27-18 dual win Thursday night at Tarble Arena.
Lipnitz took down Carthage's Diego Fuentes at 197 pounds, winning in 4 minutes, 7 seconds. He was one of two Muskies freshmen to win, as
Nathan Schanen (
Fr.-Muskego, Wis.) also added a victory at 133 lbs., defeating Loren Semler by technical fall, 17-2 in 6:18.
Lakeland received six points in the dual from the pin and five more from the tech fall victory. The remaining points came from two more Muskies wins, including
Jesse Burg (
So.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) with a win at 149 lbs. Burg won a major decision over Elijah Zepeda, taking an 8-0 victory.
Evan Haferkorn (
So.-Norway, Mich.) also added a win at 165 lbs., winning an 8-1 decision over Carthage's Christian Gilbert. The Muskies' nearest miss came in the heavyweight match, where the host Firebirds' Mason Kochersperger edged Lakeland's
Diego Morales (
So.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) 2-1.
Carthage earned the overall dual victory by taking six of 10 matches. The Firebirds, like the Muskies, posted just one pin, but also added three wins by technical fall.
Lakeland competes in another dual for its next event when it hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering this Tuesday at 6 p.m.
