Mobley resigns as Lakeland men's soccer coach, Quintell named interim head coach

Rick Mobley has resigned as Lakeland University's head men's soccer coach, and Kyle Quintell has been named interim head coach, Senior Woman Administrator April Arvan announced today.

Quintell has been an assistant on the Lakeland men's soccer coaching staff for the past four season, and he's spent two years as director of operations for both the Muskies men's and women's soccer programs.

In addition to serving as an assistant coach with both teams, Quintell handled day-to-day operations for both programs with his duties including the oversight of recruiting, fundraising efforts, academic support, scheduling and travel.

He stepped into a full-time role at Lakeland after two years as the men's program's graduate assistant. He also assisted with the women's soccer team in the 2021 season when Mobley was the women's team's interim coach.

Quintell came to Lakeland following a four-year career for the rival Marian University men's soccer program. He played in a total of 39 matches from 2016-19, starting 22, and was a starter his final two years as a defender.

Quintell has completed his United States Soccer Federation D License, and also coaches with the Lakeshore United Futbol Club in Sheboygan, Wis., where he serves as tournament director and coaches high school boys and girls and small group training sessions. He previously was the head varsity girl's soccer coach at Port Washington High School in Port Washington, Wis., and director of coaching and academy director for the Port Washington Soccer Club.

Before coming to Lakeland, Quintell served as head coach of the Kohler High School junior varsity girls soccer team for one year and head freshman girls basketball coach at Fond du Lac High School for two seasons. He has also been an assistant coach with the Fond du Lac Youth Soccer Association since 2016.

A native of Genoa, Ill., Quintell graduated from Marian in May of 2020 with a double major in sports and recreation management and marketing and a minor in athletic coaching. He completed his master of business administration from Lakeland in 2021.

Mobley served six seasons as Lakeland's head men's soccer coach finishing with a record of 21-65-8. He also spent five seasons as the Muskies' head men's tennis coach.

Mobley has more than 200 career soccer wins in his 25 seasons as a collegiate head coach. His work turning around the Muskies program includes the 2022 team finishing 6-7-2 overall and 5-6-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The team's six wins were the program's most in a season since 2014, and its overall record was the Muskies' best since 2013. Lakeland's five NACC wins also were its most in conference since 2011, and the team posted a five-game unbeaten streak late in the season, the program's longest stretch without a loss since 2008.

Lakeland just missed out on a spot in the NACC Tournament for the second straight season, after also finishing 2-3-1 overall and in the NACC North Division in the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 season. The Muskies were in line for their first appearance in the NACC Tournament since 2009 until their season ended early due to Covid protocols. Lakeland still posted its best overall winning percentage since 2013 and had a first team all-NACC performer (Michecadet Gethand) for the first time in 10 years.

Mobley came to Lakeland after having served as coach at Carroll University for 19 years, where he had tremendous success with the Pioneers. Mobley posted a record of 184-137-28 at Carroll, winning six Midwest Conference tournament championships, three regular season titles and making six trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Prior to coming to Carroll, Mobley played nine seasons of professional soccer, including seven seasons indoor with the Milwaukee Wave plus two seasons of outdoor soccer with the Charlotte Eagles. He was inducted into the Milwaukee Wave Hall of Fame in 2013.
