Series history: 1st meeting
This is UW-Stout's first year of men's soccer, and the Blue Devils will be part of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which brought the sport back this year after an 11-year absence. Lakeland has played current WIAC members UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville and UW-Whitewater before and has a combined 5-19-1 record against them. The Muskies' last win against a WIAC school was a 2-1 victory over Oshkosh Oct. 23, 2011.

Lakeland last time out: Lost at Elmhurst 2-0 Friday
The Muskies opened their season against a tough College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin foe and fell behind early when the Bluejays scored twice in the game's first 15 minutes. Lakeland recovered nicely from there, outshooting Elmhurst 13-8 the rest of the way, but was unable to push a goal across. Zach Heiman made seven saves in goal for the Muskies. Jordan Davis-Troller led the attackers with five shot attempts, including three shots on goal.

Lakeland was making its debut under Kyle Quintell, an assistant with the program the last four years who is serving as interim head coach this year after Rick Mobley resigned this summer. Quintell took over a young team that lost seven starters from last year but does return 10 players who started at least one match last year, including leading returning scorer Michael Barragan. The squad also includes 21 newcomers, the return of a pair of players to the team after a year away (Suleiman Haji and Bryan Tovar) and seven states are represented on this year's roster: Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming.

UW-Stout last time out: Lost to Hamline (Minn.) 2-0 Friday
The Blue Devils played the first match in program history but lost ot the Pipers at home in Menomonie. Hamline scored the first goal in the 20th minute and then added another just 90 seconds before halftime. The Pipers dominated possession wth a 21-2 advantage in shot attempts. Chase Holub came on in goal in the second half and made eight saves for Stout after Maxwell Kutz played the first half.

UW-Stout announced the addition of men's soccer in March 2023, and Marcos Rodriguez was hired as the program's first coach five months later.
