DUBUQUE, Iowa –
Braedin Jacobson (
So.-Green Bay, Wis.) scored twice to lead seven players scoring a goal and the Lakeland University men's soccer team bounced back from a lackluster opener to defeat Emmaus (Iowa) University 8-0 Thursday afternoon.
Jordan Davis-Troller (
Sr.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) added two assists and
Isai Gil (
Jr.-Beaumont, Calif.) and
Colin Davis (
Fr.-Chesterfield, Mo.) added a goal and an assist each. Eleven different players in all contributed a goal and/or assist as the Muskies responded well after a 5-1 loss to Lawrence University in their season opener two nights earlier.
Lakeland needed less than 2 1/2 minutes to get on the board, as a throw-in by
Andrew DeJaynes (
Jr.-Springfield, Ill.) into the box rattled around and was deflected by Davis-Troller to
Dunia Wangu (
Jr.-Tanzania), who scored 2 minutes, 23 seconds in with his second goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Gil,
Porter Gigstead (
Jr.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) and Davis all added goals in the first half as the Muskies built a 5-0 lead by halftime. Gil scored his first goal as a Muskie in the 13th minute and Davis scored his first collegiate goal in the 37th minute with fellow freshman
Aiden Schroeder (
Chippewa Falls, Wis.) assisting.
Woodlens Frederic (
Fr.-Green Bay, Wis.) then capped the first half scoring with his first goal in the 42nd minute, off a pass from
Aaron Priester (
Jr.-Lake Geneva, Wis.) after a long goal kick by goalkeeper
Ali Faiad (
Fr.-Tampa, Fla.).
Angel Cortez (
Jr.-Elmwood Park, Ill.) then scored his first goal in the 56th minute, his unassisted tally giving Lakeland a 6-0 lead. Jacobson then scored twice in the final 12 minutes, with Davis's long pass from the right side setting up the first goal and
Roman Vences (
Fr.-Crystal Lake, Ill.) crossing a pass to Jacobson for the game's final score in the 85th minute.
Lakeland finished the match outshooting Emmaus 48-4, including 22 shots on goal. Twenty-five different players saw the field, with the starting ten players in the field exiting after 30 minutes of play.
Faiad and
Jeremiah Reynolds (
So.-Huntley, Ill.) combined for the shutout and did not have to face a shot on goal. Lincoln LaBerge made 14 saves in goal for the Eagles, a National Collegiate Christian Athletic Association (NCCAA) member school that dropped to 0-3 on the season.
