Lakeland University hosts a new opponent for the second straight time in men's soccer when the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point visits Saturday for a 1 p.m. start at Taylor Field on campus.

The Muskies play a first-year program for the second straight game, as UW-Stevens Point joins UW-Stout as new programs in the state of Wisconsin this year. The Pointers will be part of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which now has six schools playing men's soccer and this year brought the sport back after an 11-year absence. Along with Stout, Lakeland has also played current WIAC members UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville and UW-Whitewater before and has a combined 6-19-1 record against them. The win over Stout was the Muskies' first against a WIAC school since a 2-1 victory over Oshkosh Oct. 23, 2011.

The Muskies earned their first win of the season at the beginning of the week, using a big second half to down the Blue Devils.
Austin Eigenberger scored the go-ahead goal early in the second half and Lakeland added three more goals in the final 17 minutes. Five different players scored goals, with
Max Mirhashemi,
Dunia Wangu,
Dirk Dell Adema and
Porter Gigstead joining Eigenberger, and four of them-Eigenberger, Gigstead, Mirhashemi and Wangu scored their first collegiate goals. Eduard Campuzano added two assists and
Zach Heiman and
Matt English combined to allow just one goal. The Muskies gained their first win over a WIAC program in 13 years and
Kyle Quintell recorded his first win as Lakeland's head coach.
UW-Stevens Point last time out: Tied Edgewood 1-1 Tuesday
The Pointers scored late in regulation to scratch out a tie in their second straight game against a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference school to open their maiden season. Cameron Jochimsen scored the tying goal in the 85th minute and UWSP finished with a tie despite being outshot 26-11 and trailing for most of the game after the Eagles scored the game's first goal in the 19th minute. Riley Nycz and Jack Hudson assisted on Jochimsen's goal, while Jacob Havlik made four saves in goal.
The Pointers have tied both of their first two games, having played to a 2-2 draw with St. Norbert in their opener last Friday. This is the first road game for a UWSP team that includes 30 freshmen, three sophomores and two juniors on its 35-man roster.
