RIVER FOREST, Ill. –
Landen Sobieski (
Sr.-Berlin, Wis.) and
Tucker Gegenfurtner (
So.-Onalaska, Wis.) both hit home runs for the Lakeland University baseball team, which dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Concordia University Chicago Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars prevailed by scores of 20-4 and 7-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference games. Concordia continued to ascend the NACC standings, improving to 20-13 overall and 11-7 in conference while Lakeland dropped to 10-23 overall and 4-14 in league play.
Sobieski hit his first collegiate home run, a three-run homer in the fourth inning of the first game after singles by
Charlie Spahn (
Jr.-Greenfield, Wis.) and
Sean Gregorius (
Fr.-Germantown, Wis.). His home run was the highlight of a first game that the Cougars dominated, scoring six runs in the second inning, six more in the fifth and cashing in virtually every opportunity they had, stranding just three runners while posting 23 hits.
Gegenfurtner hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning of the second game to get the Muskies on the board, his third home run of the season and first since Lakeland's spring break trip. Lakeland also added a run in the eighth when
Logan South (
Fr.-Oswego, Ill.) scored after an error to make it 6-3, but the Muskies got no closer.
Gregorius, Sobieski and Spahn all had two hits each in the first game as Lakeland posted 10 hits in the game.
Eli Watkins (
So.-Herrin, Ill.) started and took the loss, allowing six runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Gegenfurtner started on the mound in the second game and took the loss, allowing seven hits and six runs (four earned) with three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
Rily Roberts (
Fr.-Chattanooga, Tenn.) came on in relief and threw 3 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and one run with a strikeout.
