Gigstead returned to play for the first time since the season opener and was active from a forward spot with three shots on goal against Benedictine. He scored the game's first goal less than two minutes into the second half, after
Austin Eigenberger-Vahsholtz (
So.-Grafton, Wis.),
Chris Ledesma (
Fr.-Georgetown, Texas) and
Brahm Dell Adema (
Sr.-Plano, Texas) won balls in the midfield, with Dell Adema setting up
Jordan Davis-Troller (
Sr.-Cottage Grove, Wis.) on the run. Davis-Troller then carried the ball into a shot from 20 yards out that Gigstead deflected, redirecting the ball inside the left post for a 1-0 lead.
The Muskies held the lead for more than 25 minutes until the Eagles (2-3-2 overall, 1-0-1 NACC) scored the equalizer. Sam Camacho hit a long cross from the left side that went through several players until Alex Krzos ran onto it and struck a shot from 15 yards out into the top right corner of the net, just out of reach of goalkeeper
Andrew Davison (
Jr.-Elburn, Ill.) and tying the game.
Davison made the save three minutes later when Benedictine's Diego Romero on the back post headed a corner kick that bounced right to the Lakeland keeper. The Muskies had a chance on a corner kick in the 82nd minute when Davis-Troller's header went high over the crossbar.
Lakeland had one final opportunity with just over 15 seconds left when Gigstead received the ball on a quick transition and shot from 25 yards away. Eagles goalkeeper Jordan Rolon fought off an awkward bounce to make the save and preserve the tie.
Benedictine finished with a 19-11 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 margin in shots on goal. Davis-Troller and Gigstead posted three shots each and Eigenberger-Vahsholtz and
Dunia Wangu (
So.-Milwaukee, Wis.) added two shots each. Davison made eight saves in goal.
