Series history:Â 1st meeting
Located in St. Paul, Minn., Hamline has been a rare opponent for Lakeland athletics teams, and the Muskies men's soccer team is taking on the Pipers for the first time tonight. Hamline is a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Lakeland is 0-7-1 all-time against current MIAC schools, with its best result a 1-1 tie against St. Mary's (Minn.) Sept. 5, 2013. This marks the first time any Muskies team has taken on the Pipers since the Lakeland women's basketball team faced Hamline Dec. 20, 2011, in a tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Lakeland last time out: Won at Cornell (Iowa) 2-1 Tuesday
The Muskies picked up their first win of the season on the road in Iowa Tuesday, coming back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Rams.
Jordan Davis-Troller scored the tying goal in the 64th minute and then assisted on the go-ahead goal by freshman
Owen Bishop with just over seven minutes left in the match. Bishop scored his first collegiate goal and Lakeland won the first-ever meeting between the schools.
Andrew Davison and
Matt English shared time in goal, with Davison making five saves in a scoreless first half and English stopping three shots and earning the win in the second half.
Hamline last time out: Defeated North Central (Minn.) 4-1 Monday
The Pipers also won for the first time this season earlier in the week, defeating North Central's Rams at home in a matchup of local foes. Four different players scored goals for Hamline including Chris Palma and Johanso Camacho in the first half and Drew Axel and Augustune Feika in the second half. Alec Setterberg made four saves for the Pipers, who are still without a loss after also posting a 2-2 tie in their season opener against UW-Platteville. Hamline finished 14-6 overall last year and 4-6 in the MIAC, placing seventh in a tough conference. The Pipers are 13-0-1 in their last 14 non-conference games, and John Pucci is in his first year as head coach after spending the last two years at Hamline's MIAC rival St. Mary's (Minn.).
