AURORA, Ill. –
Logan Schwinger (
Fr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) posted a pin at 197 pounds for one of the highlights of the night for the Lakeland University men's wrestling team in a 40-12 loss to Aurora University in a dual match Tuesday night.
Schwinger defeated Aurora's Denim Ashley by fall in 1 minute, 55 seconds for one of two wins for the Muskies in the dual.
Jacob Hillshafer (
Fr.-West Bend, Wis.) also added a win at 141 lbs. when Kalani Khiev retired 4:18 into the match.
Lakeland's night included near misses in several matches, including
Dillon Raab (
Jr.-Spalding, Mich.) and
Breyson Kelley (
Fr.-Florence, Wis.) both losing close decisions. Raab was within 11-10 late in his match at 165 lbs. against Aurora's Carlos Munoz-Flores before the latter scored two points on a reversal late in a 13-11 win. Kelley held a 3-0 lead into the third period against Alton Mullinax at 184 lbs., but Mullinax earned a takedown in the third period and with riding time edged out a 4-3 win.
Evan Haferkorn (
Jr.-Norway, Mich.) also was locked in a close match with Aurora's Jack Seacrist at 174 lbs., trailing 4-0 before retiring due to injury with 33 seconds left in the match.
Evan Saevre (
Fr.-Columbus, Ind.) earned a win to close out the night, pinning Oscar Antonio in 1:24 in one of two extra matches contested.
Lakeland takes to the road Saturday for the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational hosted by Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, with wrestling set to begin at 9 a.m.
