PLYMOUTH, Wis. –
Evan Haferkorn (
Jr.-Norway, Mich.) and
Logan Schwinger (
Fr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) delivered pins as part of a run of five straight wins in the middle weight classes as the Lakeland University men's wrestling team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 26-18 Thursday on Throwback Night at the Wehr Center Fieldhouse.
The Muskies rallied from an early 12-2 deficit in the dual to defeat the Titans for the second straight year. Lakeland also improved to 7-3 in dual matches this year and clinched a winning record in duals for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
With a throwback theme for the night that included the team donning Lakeland College singlets, the Muskies won six of 10 matches in the dual, including five in a row to take the lead after trailing early.
UW-Oshkosh (2-9 overall) won two of the first three matches, but
Jesse Burg (
Jr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) began the run with a 12-0 major decision win over Caidan Ronning at 157 pounds. Haferkorn followed with a pin of Logan Andrews in 4 minutes, 40 seconds at 165 lbs., and
Dillon Raab (
Jr.-Spalding, Mich.) put Lakeland ahead with a 9-2 decision win over Nathan Lenz-Messman at 184 lbs.
Breyson Kelley (
Fr.- Florence, Wis.) followed with a big 16-1 technical fall win over Kyle Rasper at 184 lbs., and Schwinger followed with a pin of Desmond Walker in 1:10 to make it 26-12 before UW-Oshkosh won the final two matches by decision.
Jacob Hillshafer (
Fr.-West Bend, Wis.) also added a 7-3 decision win over UWO's Logan Harel at 141 lbs.
Nathan Schanen (
So.-Muskego, Wis.) and
Nidal Farah (
Sr.-Ventura, Calif.) also added wins in extra matches, including Schanen with an 11-3 major decision over Joe Beavers and Farah pinning Brodie Driessen in 3:54 in a heavyweight extra match.
Lakeland is home again tomorrow night to take on Carthage College for a dual starting at 6 p.m. in the Wehr Fieldhouse.
