EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Lakeland University men's wrestling team turned in its strongest regional performance in over a decade Saturday at the NCAA Division III Region VII Regional, recording the most wrestlers to earn NCAA all-region honors for Lakeland since 2014.

The Muskies finished ninth out of 16 teams with 51 total points at the regional hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Lakleand also finished with five wrestlers posting top-eight finishes, its most all-region honorees since five also received that honor in the 2013-14 season.

Diego Morales (Jr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) led the way with a sixth-place finish at 285 pounds. He opened the day with a win by fall over Mason Swanson of Concordia College Moorhead (Minn.) in 6 minutes, 44 seconds. Morales was then defeated by a 2-1 decision that was decided by a riding time point awarded to Markos Mihalopoulos of UW-La Crosse. He then fell in the fifth-place match to Elijah Osit of Aurora University by a 17-3 major decision.

Jesse Burg (Jr.- Cedar Grove, Wis.), Evan Haferkorn (Jr.- Norway, Mich.) and Will Ohman (So.- Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) all finished seventh in their respective weight classes. Berg dropped his consolation third-round match to Adam Whittier of UW-Platteville at 149 lbs. by a 14-1 major decision but securing seventh place via medical forfeit over Jacob Ward of UW-Oshkosh. Berg finishes the season with a team-best thirty wins.

Haferkorn fell in the 165 lb. consolation third round, where he was pinned by Jack Seacrist of Aurora in 1:47, but responded in the seventh-place match with a 16-1 tech fall over Jack Miller of Augustana (Ill.) College. Ohman also battled to earn seventh at 174 pounds. After being pinned by Preston Carlisle of UW-Eau Claire in the third round, he answered with a pin of his own in 6:03 over Maxwell Schmitt of Carthage College in the seventh-place match.

Jacob Hillshafer (West Bend, Wis.) finished his freshman campaign with an eighth-place finish at 141 lbs. The third round saw him get pinned by Caleb Nobiling of UW-Stevens Point, and Ty Fink of UW-Eau Claire defeated him with a 22-5 tech fall in the seventh-place match.
