MILWAUKEE, Wis. –
Evan Haferkorn (
Jr.-Norway, Mich.) won both of his matches and was named all-conference as the Lakeland University men's wrestling team competed at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Showcase Friday night hosted by Milwaukee School of Engineering.
The Muskies lost to MSOE 28-9 in their first match but rebounded to rout Concordia University Wisconsin 47-4. Lakeland finished third in the second annual event, while MSOE defeated Aurora University 23-16 in the championship match.
Haferkorn was named all-NACC at 165 pounds after winning twice on Friday, including an 11-5 decision over MSOE's Diego Snell-Martinez in the first dual. He also topped Concordia's Hunter Burr in a 16-0 technical fall victory.
Jesse Burg (
Jr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) also won twice on Friday at 157 lbs., including a 3-0 decision over Ben Messier of MSOE. Burg also pinned CUW's Tyson Skubal in 2 minutes, 12 seconds in the second match, one of four Lakeland pins against the Falcons.
Diego Morales (
Jr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) was the Muskies' third double-winner on Friday. He topped MSOE's Jake Schmitt 6-0 at 285 lbs., and then received a forfeit win to wrap up the dual victory over Concordia.
Rigoberto Tellez (
Fr.-Oostburg, Wis.),
Breyson Kelley (
Fr.- Florence, Wis.) and
Logan Schwinger (
Fr.-Rhinelander, Wis.) also all added pins. Tellez took down Concordia's Sam Begler in 5:51 at 133 lbs., Kelley pinned Kyle Sorensen in 3:16 at 184 lbs., and Schwinger added a win by fall over Tylan Watts of CUW at 197 lbs. in 1:49.
Lakeland next weekend goes to the Mid-States Invitational next Saturday, Feb. 14, hosted by Alma College in Alma, Mich.
Lakeland NACC Showcase Results
