Lakeland College shot 23.1% for the game and was even colder in the first half, digging too big a hole to get out of in a 54-44 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Monday night in a non-conference game at Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies made just 12 of 52 shots in the game, including four of 26 in the first half (15.4%). Oshkosh wasn't much better, shooting just 33.3% for the night, but it was good enough for the Titans to improve to 4-0 while Lakeland dropped to 1-3.

UW-Oshkosh shut down the Muskies for the final 12 minutes of the first half, finishing the half on a 23-7 run for a 34-14 halftime lead. The Titans had separate runs of nine and eight consecutive points and led by as many as 21 points when Ashley Neustifter hit a jumper for a 32-11 lead with 2:40 left before halftime.

The Titans dominated inside, out-rebounding Lakeland 29-15 in the first half, and were excellent at the free throw stripe, hitting all 14 of their foul shots in the first half. Megan Wenig had 14 of her game-high 18 points in the first 20 minutes and twice converted three free throws after being fouled while attempting three-point shots.

The Muskies showed considerable fight in the second half, getting the ball inside frequently to Leah Eisner (Jr.-Stevens Point, Wis.) and Becky Mayo (Sr.-Gladstone, Mich.). Eisner led Lakeland with 16 points and six rebounds, while Mayo scored all 14 of her points in the second half, including an 8-for-9 performance from the foul line.

The Titans still held control in the second half and led by 21 points on two more occasions, the last time after Shelby Serafin scored inside to make it 48-27 with 10:31 left in the game. The Muskies chipped away the rest of the game, though, and closed on a 17-7 run to get as close as 10 at the end.

Eisner and Mayo were the lone players in double figures for Lakeland, while Taylor Jandrin (Jr.-Forestville, Wis.) added five points and five rebounds. Eisner also had five steals and Aimee Thrune (Jr.-Prairie du Sac, Wis.) finished with a game-high five assists.

Wenig was the lone player in double figures for UW-Oshkosh, which made 18 of 54 shots from the field but was 15-for-16 from the free throw line (93.8%). The Titans also out-rebounded Lakeland 46-33 for the game and were led on the boards by Katelyn Kuehl, who finished with 13 rebounds.

The Muskies return to Northern Athletics Conference play Wednesday when they travel to Mequon to face Concordia University Wisconsin at 7 p.m.
