KOHLER – Lakeland College swept three doubles matches and won all but one singles match on the day, defeating Concordia University Chicago 8-1 Sunday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Sports Core.
The Muskies again took care of business in a conference match, improving to 10-2 this season and 8-2 in the NACC with one regular season match remaining. With a win in its finale on Tuesday against Wisconsin Lutheran College, Lakeland will clinch at least a tie for second in the conference final regular season standings.
The Muskies continue to be strong at the top of their lineup.
Victoria Powelson (
So.-Ishpeming, Mich.) and
Lynn Pipke (
So.-Greenfield, Wis.) teamed up for another No. 1 doubles win, defeating Janel Dignadice and Marthilda Kaipare 8-1. Powelson also defeated Dignadice at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0, and Pipke topped Kaipare at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2.
Erica Hoffmann (
Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) defeated Emma Renteria at No. 3 singles without losing a set, winning 6-0, 6-0. She also paired with
Maggie Liston (
Fr.-Lemont, Ill.) at No. 2 doubles for a close 8-6 win over Concordia's Renteria and Elizabeth Steinhoff.
Brittany Jurek (
Gladstone, Mich.) and
Jenna Oberthaler (
Iron Mountain, Mich.) also cleaned up for the Muskies, scoring another No. 3 doubles win by blanking Margaret Jones and Kristen Singley 8-0. Jurek also was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 5 singles over Jones and Oberthaler defeated Singley 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Lakeland wraps up its fall season on Tuesday against Wisconsin Lutheran at 4 p.m. at Sports Core.
