Erica Hoffmann (
Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) and
Jenna Oberthaler (
Sr.-Iron Mountain, Mich.) all went undefeated in two matches as the Lakeland College women's tennis team posted a 6-3 victory over Ripon College Thursday afternoon.
The Muskies won the non-conference match at the Sports Core and improved to 3-0 on the season. Lakeland also won for the second straight year over Ripon, which dropped to 1-3 this season.
Powelson dominated again at No. 1singles, moving to 3-0 there this season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Elizabeth Ake. She also teamed with
Lynn Pipke (
So.-Greenfield, Wis.) to defeat Ake and Maddie VandenHouten at No. 1 doubles by an 8-3 score.
Hoffmann also won with ease at No. 3 singles, defeating Ripon's Monica Schilling 6-0, 6-1. Oberthaler, meanwhile, got past Lucero Pena at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and also teamed with Hoffmann at No. 2 doubles for an 8-0 shutout win over Schilling and Maddie Salzer.
Brittany Jurek (
Sr.-Gladstone, Mich.) also scored a convincing win at No. 4 singles, defeating Salzer 6-1, 6-0 to improve to 3-0 in singles matches.
The Muskies lost twice in singles play, as Pipke lost to VandenHouten at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Maura Slattery outlasted
Alissa Stephani (
Jr.-Appleton, Wis.) in three sets, 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 10-7. The Red Hawks also scored a win at No. 3 doubles, with Pena and Slattery edging Stephani and
Sarah Allman (
Fr.-Elkhart Lake, Wis.) by a 9-7 score in Allman's first collegiate match.
Lakeland gets back into Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action again on Saturday when it plays a pair of road matches. The Muskies will face Rockford (Ill.) University at 10 a.m. in Rockford, and then head north to take on Edgewood College at 2 p.m. at Hitters Sportsplex in Middleton.
