Muskies aim to take down NACC power Wisconsin Lutheran again

The Lakeland College women's basketball team would have no problem with a repeat of its last home meeting with Wisconsin Lutheran College when the Muskies host the Warriors Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The last time the teams met at Lakeland just over a year ago, the Muskies snapped WLC's 20-game win streak in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with a 69-67 victory. Bailey Grayvold (Jr.-Norway, Mich.) scored a then-career high 24 points and Lakeland rallied from an early 12-point deficit for its first win since 2012 over the perennial conference power. The Warriors gained revenge in the team's next meeting, defeating the Muskies 93-46 in Milwaukee earlier this calendar year on Jan. 20, but Lakeland finished the season as one of just two teams to defeat Wisconsin Lutheran, which went on to win its fifth consecutive NACC regular season and tournamen titles and made its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Muskies (2-6 overall, 2-2 NACC) have been idle this week, allowing them time to savor their second win of the season in their last game, a 62-58 victory over Alverno last Saturday. Grayvold notched a double-double with season highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds and scored her team's first 11 points of the fourth quarter as Lakeland fought back after trailing by seven early in the second half. The Warriors (6-3 overall, 4-0 NACC) also have been off this week, most recently defeating Concordia Chicago 71-62 at home a week ago. Karisa Pedersen scored 20 points, including four three-pointers, while Taylor Bahr added 14 points and eight rebounds.

Lakeland holds a 42-20 lead in the all-time series between the teams. The game also is the final Lakeland home athletics event for the 2015 calendar year, and note the game time change-the contest was originally scheduled for 4:15 p.m. but was moved up to 2 p.m. after agreement by both schools last week.
