HERSHEY, Pa. – Lakeland College sophomore
Mitchell Fucile (
Chilton, Wis.) gave a good account in his first trip to the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, finishing 1-2 in his weight class Friday.
Competing at 165 pounds, Fucile was defeated by fourth-seeded Tyler Schneider of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 6-0 in his opening match. He rebounded to defeat Francisco Colom of Roger Williams (R.I.) University 6-4 in overtime in the wrestleback bracket.
Fucile's tournament came to a close with his next match, as No. 6 seed Nolan Barger of Lycoming (Pa.) College won by fall in 59 seconds.
Fucile finished his season with a 22-13 match record. He was the first Lakeland wrestler to qualify for nationals since Ryan Renon in 2012.
