KOHLER – The Lakeland College women's tennis team was ever-so-close a number of times but came up empty in a number of long matches in losing a dual match against Milwaukee School of Engineering Wednesday night at the Sports Core.

The Raiders swept all nine matches to improve to 2-6 overall and 2-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The Muskies are still searching for their first win after dropping to 0-5 overall and in conference matches.

Lakeland was once again competitive in a number of matches, including three near-marathon matches that went to the limit. The closest miss was at No. 1 doubles, where Emma Schad (Fr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) and Mikayla Hilton (Jr.-Port Washington, Wis.) went to a tiebreaker before losing 9-8 overall and 7-5 in the tiebreaker to Monika Gurdak and Calie Bonie.

Hilton also had a narrow miss at No. 6 singles, where she went three long sets before falling to Pauline Scharping 3-6, 6-4, 10-7. The Muskies also went extra at No. 3 doubles, where Carly Brault (So.-Brillion, Wis.) and Rachel Conery (So.-Vulcan, Mich.) were defeated 9-7 by Brittany Kelley and Melanie Avery.

Brault also played well at No. 4 singles before losing to Kelley 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Conery was also defeated by Michelle Roubik 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, while Courtney Kienast (Fr.-Burlington, Wis.) fell to Bonie 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Lakeland will play again on Friday when it travels to face Marian University at 4 p.m. in Fond du Lac. The Muskies also will be on the road Saturday when they travel to take on Edgewood College at 2 p.m. in Madison.
