Carly Brault (
So.-Brillion, Wis.) won her match at singles but the Lakeland College women's tennis team was defeated by Marian University 8-1 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference dual match Friday evening.
Brault earned her second win of the season at No. 4 singles by outlasting Marian's Melissa Spannbauer. Brault split the first two sets before winning the tiebreaking third set and the match 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.
The Muskies (0-6 overall, 0-6 NACC) did their best work in the lower flights, including a near miss at No. 6 singles.
Mikayla Hilton (
Jr.-Port Washington, Wis.) won the first set before losing two tough sets and falling to Alyssa Ostrowski 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.
Rachel Conery (
So.-Vulcan, Mich.) won five games but was swept in two sets by Samantha Smits at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Ann Schroeder (
Fr.-Lake Mills, Wis.) was defeated at No. 2 singles by Alissa Heid 6-0, 6-2, while Meg Hartzell topped Lakeland's
Emma Schad (
Fr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1.
Brault and Conery had Lakeland's closest call in doubles play, stretching Smits and Kristin Houle before losing at No. 3 doubles 8-5.
The Muskies are in action again Saturday afternoon when they face Edgewood College at 2 p.m. in Madison.
