Mikayla Hilton (
Jr.-Port Washington, Wis.) won again in singles play but the Lakeland College women's tennis team was defeated by Wisconsin Lutheran College Tuesday night at the Sports Core.
The Warriors won by an 8-1 score, but Hilton continued to be a bright spot on the scoreboard with her third straight singles win. The junior won at No. 6 singles, defeating Natalie Anderson in straight sets 6-4, 7-6.
The Muskies top performance besides Hilton in singles came at the No. 4 flight, where
Carly Brault (
So.-Brillion, Wis.) lost a close first set and was defeated by Amanda Pearson 6-4, 6-1.
Ann Schroeder (
Fr.-Lake Mills, Wis.) and
Courtney Kienast (
Fr.-Burlington, Wis.) also were defeated by identical 6-1, 6-2 scores at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, with Schroeder falling to Kalyn Geddes and Kienast defeated by Tabitha Schultz.
Schroeder and Kienast also provided Lakeland's top result at doubles, winning three games but losing 8-3 to Kendra Bergmann and Taylor Bergmann at No. 2 doubles. Brault and
Rachel Conery (
So.-Vulcan, Mich.) were defeated by Anderson and Katarina Volkmann 8-2 at No. 3 doubles, while Hilton and
Emma Schad (
Fr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) were defeated by Geddes and Paige Potaracke 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Lakeland has two more matches remaining in its season next week. The Muskies will play their home finale next Friday, Oct. 2, when they host Alverno College at 4 p.m.
