LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Lakeland College wrestling team faced two tough opponents on Saturday, losing dual matches to host UW-La Crosse and Wheaton (Ill.) College at the Mitchell Hall Gymnasium.
The Muskies were defeated 45-0 by La Crosse and fell by a 34-9 count to Wheaton.
Marcus McCauley (
Sr.-Hillpoint, Wis.) posted the lone match win for Lakeland, defeating Wheaton's William Byrd with an 11-10 decision at 149 pounds.
Jimmy Spencer (
Fr.-Dafter, Mich.) also won by forfeit at 125 lbs. against Wheaton to provide the team's other win. The Muskies again fielded a short squad on Saturday, having to forfeit in seven matches over the two duals.
Lakeland's closest losses came from
Ian Gioacchini (
So.-Kaukauna, Wis.) and
Mitchell Fucile (
Jr.-Chilton, Wis.). Gioacchini was defeated 5-1 at 141 lbs. by UW-La Crosses's Garrett Dzeidzic and 7-3 by Wheaton's Eric Wales. Fucile fell to UW-L's Derek Weinmann by an 8-4 decision and was defeated by Wheaton's Frank Aiello 6-3.
The Muskies are in action again next weekend when they travel to Wheaton, Ill., for the Pete Willson Invitational, held Jan. 29-30.
