KOHLER – Five members of the Lakeland University women's tennis team were part of wins as the Muskies lost a pair of hard-fought dual matches Saturday inside at Sports Core.
Dominican (Ill.) University defeated Lakeland 7-2 in the first match of the day and Aurora (Ill.) University also came away with a 6-3 victory over the Muskies in the afternoon. Lakeland is now 1-9 overall and 1-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
The Muskies were involved in a number of close matches on the day and came away with several solid wins. Against Dominican,
Ann Schroeder (
So.-Lake Mills, Wis.) earned a win at No. 2 singles by a 6-1, 6-3 count over Cristal Sanchez, while
Emma Schad (
So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) and
Mikayla Hilton (
Sr.-Port Washington, Wis.) also teamed up to defeat Sanchez and Carmelita Villalobos at No. 1 doubles 8-3.
Lakeland also won three matches against Aurora, two coming in singles.
Carly Brault (
Jr.-Brillion, Wis.) topped Jamie Huff at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-2, while Hilton defeated Haley Cooley at No. 5 singles by a 6-1, 6-4 score. Brault and
Rachel Conery (
Jr.-Vulcan, Mich.) also paired up at No. 3 doubles to defeat Cooley and Alex Hultine 8-4.
The Muskies were particularly close to a team win against Aurora, coming close in two other matches. Conery lost a first-set tiebreaker at No. 6 singles to Hultine, eventually falling 7-6 (7-4), 6-0. Schroeder and
Tyner Strawn (
So.-Manitowoc, Wis.) also lost a close 8-5 decision at No. 2 doubles to Huff and Mackenzie Smith.
Lakeland is in action again Sunday for its final home event of the season when it hosts Beloit College for a non-conference dual beginning at noon.
