KOHLER – The Lakeland University women's tennis team closed out the home portion of its schedule with a flourish, defeating Beloit College 7-2 in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon at Sports Core.

The Muskies won five of six matches at singles and two of three at doubles for their second dual match win of the season. Lakeland is now 2-9 overall with a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches remaining next weekend to close out the season.

Carly Brault (Jr.-Brillion, Wis.) had a hand in two wins, including a win at doubles with a first-time partner as head coach Tammy Utley mixed up the lineup some for the final home dual. Brault and Ann Schroeder (So.-Lake Mills, Wis.) teamed up  at No. 2 doubles to defeat Hayden Lamphere and Emma Hahn 8-0, and Brault also defeated Hahn at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-2.

Emma Schad (So.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) also earned her first singles match win of the season, defeating Kiri Youngquist 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Tyner Strawn (So.-Manitowoc, Wis.) also defeated Lamphere 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 at No. 3 singles and Mikayla Hilton (Port Washington, Wis.)-the team's lone senior-blanked Nyasha Nyamhondoro 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Nikki Bonilla (So.-Woodstock, Ill.) also received the win at No. 6 singles by default as Beloit brought just five players for the match.

Strawn and Rachel Conery (Jr.-Vulcan, Mich.) also received a win by default at No. 3 doubles. The Muskies also were competitive in their two losses. Schroeder stepped up to No. 1 singles and lost a lengthy three-set match to Alex Kurpiel, 2-6, 6-3, 10-6, and Schad and Hilton lost to Kurpiel and Youngquist 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.

Lakeland concludes its season Saturday in Milwaukee, where it will face Milwaukee School of Engineering at 10 a.m. and Wisconsin Lutheran College at 2 p.m.
