Antley gets first collegiate win, Muskies split at Maranatha Baptist

WATERTOWN, Wis. – James Antley (Fr.-Luling, La.) pitched a complete game four-hitter and the Lakeland College baseball team defeated Maranatha Baptist University 6-3 in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday.

Antley allowed three runs (two earned) while striking out two to get his first collegiate win in his second start. He helped the Muskies finished with a split of the twinbill after Maranatha Baptist came back for an 8-5 win in the second game.

Lakeland (8-15 overall) scored four times in the top of the sixth inning of the opener, breaking free from a 2-2 tie. Travis Regalado (Fr.-Willcox, Ariz.) hit a solo home run to lead off the inning, Drew Richard (So.-Kieler, Wis.) drove in a run when he reached on an error, and Brooks Repking (Fr.-Hamburg, Wis.) singled in a pair of runs as the Muskies scored three unearned runs in the inning.

That was more than enough for Antley, who finished the game recording 14 outs via the ground ball, including the final eight outs for Maranatha Baptist. The freshman allowed a solo home run in the seventh but otherwise shut out the hosts over the final four innings.

The second game saw the teams go back and forth for 4 1/2 innings before Maranatha Baptist (7-17 overall) scored three times in the bottom of the fifth. The Sabercats rapped out five hits in the inning, including three hits right down the line, to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Brandon Glaeser (Sr.-Manitowoc, Wis.), Connor Hilburn (Fr.-Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), Jared Rear (Sr.-Belleville, Wis.) and Bryce Skelton (Sr.-Delavan, Wis.) all had two hits each in the second game, and Glaeser and Skelton both drove in two runs each. Lakeland outhit Maranatha Baptist 12-10 but was hurt by three errors resulting in a pair of unearned runs.

Christian Foss (Jr.-Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) started and allowed five runs (three earned) in four innings before Jeremy Surowiec (Fr.-Lowell, Ind.) came on in the fifth and allowed five hits and three runs in 2/3 of an inning to take the loss.

Lakeland is back home Saturday when it welcomes Concordia University Wisconsin for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader beginning at noon.
