KOHLER – The Lakeland University women's tennis team won once at singles and once at doubles but lost overall duals against Marian University and Edgewood College Saturday in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches at Sports Core.
The Muskies fell by a 7-2 score against the Sabres in the morning session and lost 9-0 against Edgewood in the afternoon. Lakeland is now 1-6 overall and 1-4 in NACC dual matches.
Carly Brault (
Jr.-Brillion, Wis.) earned the Muskies' singles win against Marian, holding off Andrea Krahenbuhl for a 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 victory at Number 4 singles. Lakeland's win in doubles came at the No. 2 flight, where
Ann Schroeder (
So.-Lake Mills, Wis.) and
Tyner Strawn (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) defeated Alissa Heid and Mackenzie Meyers 8-6 in a close match.
Lakeland very nearly made it an even closer match but lost a pair of three-set matches in singles. Schroeder won the second set but couldn't claim the third in a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 loss to Meyers at No. 2 singles, while
Mikayla Hilton (
Sr.-Port Washington, Wis.) won her first set but lost the final two in falling to Kristin Houle at No. 5 singles 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Hilton also had the best singles performance against Edgewood, going to a tiebreaker in the second set but losing to Haley Brooks 6-1, 7-6 (7-3). She also was part of the team's closest doubles result, as she paired with
Rachel Conery (
So.-Vulcan, Mich.) in an 8-4 loss at No. 3 doubles to Brittany Grafton and Alexa Lindsay.
The Muskies are in action next when they travel to face Ripon College for a non-conference dual at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
