Conference play opens for the Lakeland University women's soccer team as it hosts Wisconsin Lutheran College in its first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match of the 2018 season Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Taylor Field.
Â
The Muskies enter the conference loop with a 4-3-1 overall record after defeating Blackburn (Ill.) 3-0 on Sunday at Taylor Field.
Rachel Wilson (
So.-Gilbert, Ariz.) scored her first collegiate goal late in the first half to break a scoreless tie, and
Hope Cerney (
So.-Green Bay, Wis.) and
Karisa Rowland (
Jr.-Peoria, Ariz.) also both added goals in the second half as Lakeland slowly pulled away in the non-conference tilt.
Grace Daehling (
So.-Sun Prairie, Wis.) also made four saves in her first match of the season in goal, and Lakeland tied the program's best start through eight games since also opening 4-3-1 in 2006.
Wisconsin Lutheran comes in with a 3-3 overall record after a 10-0 non-conference win over Mount Mary on Sunday. Miriam Carreno, Helen Joyce and Kayla Mitchell all scored two goals each and both Joyce and Kendra Schumacher added three assists each. The Warriors are coached by Tony Pierce, who led Lakeland's men's and women's soccer teams for two years from 2010-11 and also is in his second stint as coach at WLC.
