Box Score KOHLER – The Lakeland University women's tennis team opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play in strong fashion with an 8-1 win over Alverno College Tuesday evening on the courts at Sports Core.

The Muskies won six of the seven contested matches and added a pair of wins by default for their first win of the season. Lakeland came only a pair of tiebreakers away from sweeping but still improved to 1-1 overall on the season.

Ellie Roe (So.-Plymouth, Wis.), Calley Wesemann (So.-Watertown, Wis.) and Abby Juozapaitis (So.-North Prairie, Wis.) all were part of a pair of wins. Roe topped Michelle Alexander 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and also teamed with Wesemann to defeat Dani Hood and Lia Hutchins 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Wesemann also won 6-2, 6-1 in straight sets over Hood at No. 3 singles, and Juozapaitis blanked Ashley Boston 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and also paired with Ann Schroeder (Sr.-Lake Mills, Wis.). for an 8-4 win over Alexander and Aaliyah McAfee at No. 2 doubles.

Emma Schad (Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) also added a 6-3, 6-0 win over McAfee at No. 4 singles. The lone loss for the Muskies came at No. 2 singles, where Schroeder played a pair of tiebreakers against Hutchins but was defeated 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4).

Lakeland continues its homestand to start the season when it welcomes Concordia University Chicago and Dominican University for NACC duals on Saturday at Sports Core. The Muskies will host Concordia at 10 a.m. and then take on Dominican at 2 p.m.
