Lakeland to face NCAA Division I Nebraska-Omaha in exhibition

The Lakeland University women's basketball team gets an opportunity against an NCAA Division I opponent when it faces the University of Nebraska-Omaha in an exhibition game Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Omaha, Neb.

The game will take place at 7 p.m. inside UNO's 7,898-seat Baxter Arena. Tickets for the game start at $10 for lower center reserved seating.

"Competing at the highest level is something that our players are looking forward to," said Lakeland head coach Aaron Nester. "It will be a unique challenge but one that will ultimately make us better, while also giving our players a lifelong memory. Being a student-athlete is about experiences and we appreciate the opportunity that Nebraska-Omaha has given us."

The Muskies are facing a Division I opponent in an exhibition for the second time in program history and first time since taking on Northern Illinois University in 2016. Lakeland returns four starters from a team that finished 20-6 overall a year ago and finished 16-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference to place third.

The Mavericks are members of the Summit League and finished 8-21 overall last year with a young team starting four freshmen or sophomores. Omaha returns all five starters this year and was picked to finish eighth of nine teams in this year's Summit League preseason poll.

Nebraska-Omaha is led by eighth-year head coach Brittany Lange, who played and later was an assistant coach collegiately at Iowa State.
