Lakeland begins final week homestand with makeup date with Aurora

The Lakeland University women's basketball team is home for its final three regular season games this week, starting when it hosts Aurora University Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies are still in the hunt for the No. 2 seed in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament and can clinch the spot and a bye into the tourney semifinals with three wins this week. Lakeland (17-5 overall, 13-4 NACC) is one-half game behind Concordia University Wisconsin entering Monday but owns the tiebreaker after two regular season wins over the Falcons.

The Muskies were defeated by Benedictine 74-54 on Saturday, getting off to a cold start and falling behind early in their first game in a week. The Eagles built a 20-point lead in the second quarter and Lakeland shot 7 of 30 in the first half and 28.6% for the game. Megan Will (So.-Lake Mills, Wis.) scored 11 points and Janai' Farr (So.-Racine, Wis.) added eight points and five rebounds off the bench.

Aurora (10-11 overall, 10-7 NACC) comes in on a three-game winning streak after defeating Illinois Tech 87-42 on Saturday. The Spartans led by two at halftime but outscored IIT 35-2 in the third quarter and shot 57.9% in the second half, making nine three-pointers . Julie Galauner scored 29 points and hit seven three-pointers and Mejia Rabi added 23 points plus 13 rebounds, making 11 of 15 from the field.

Monday night's game is a redo of the game between the Muskies and Spartans originally scheduled for last Tuesday, Feb. 5. The game was postponed due to icy conditions in the Chicago area that affected travel.

Live audio, video and statistics will be available at http://www.lakelandmuskies.com/muskieslive, with Andy Damp calling the play-by-play.
