Kayla Bruton (
Fr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) set a new personal best in winning the women's 400 meters as the Lakeland University men's and women's track & field teams competed at the St. Norbert College Twilight Invitational Saturday.
Bruton finished the 400 in a time of 1 minutes, 2.85 seconds, nearly two seconds better than her previous best. She posted her first win in the event at the collegiate level as the Muskies women's team scored 39 points to finish fourth of seven teams. The Lakeland men's team also posted 22 points to come in fifth of eight teams.
A number of Muskies again posted personal records.
Jaila Cole-Clark (
So.-Matteson, Ill.) added one in the 100 meters, with her fourth-place finishing time of 13.20 seconds nearly four tenths better than her previous best. Cole-Clark also added a third-place finish in the 200 with a time of 28.42.
Hope Cerney (
So.-Green Bay, Wis.) also joined Bruton in the 400, winning her heat and finishing fifth overall with a PR of 1:06.40.
Bailee Nessinger (
Fr.-Brussels, Wis.) also added a PR by more than a second in finishing ninth, finishing in 1:12.46.
Emily Petersen (
Fr.-Menominee, Mich.) also added a personal best time in the 800, finishing 12th in 3:05.99.
Nathalie Cairo (
Fr.-Kenosha, Wis.) also set a new best by 17 seconds in the 1,500 meters, finishing seventh with a time of 5:33.00, and
Rachel Ulatowski (
Jr.-Fredonia, Wis.) set a new PR by over a minute in the 5,000 meters, finishing sixth with a time of 23:40.99.
The top finish for the Lakeland men's team came from
Trenton Nickel (
So.-Kiel, Wis.), who placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:03.19.
Spencer Miesfeld (
So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and
Tyler Jensen (
Fr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) also finished ninth and 10th in the event, respectively, with Miesfeld finishing in 2:17.84 and Jensen in 2:22.56).
Devon Zahn (
Fr.-Oshkosh, Wis.) also set a new PR in the 100, finishing fifth with a time of 11.55, more than a tenth better than his previous best. Zahn also added a new PR in the 200 with a time of 24.09 to place eighth.
The Muskies now get ready for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Outdoor Championships, to be hosted by Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill., May 3-4.
