Former Muskies standout
Kayla Clark has been named an assistant coach with the Lakeland University women's basketball program, Head Coach
Amber Peterson recently announced.
Clark returns to Lakeland three years after her graduation and after spending the past three years coaching at the college and high school levels. She also will serve as an assistant coach under Peterson with the Muskies women's golf team.
Clark joins the Muskies with two years of collegiate coaching experience, including spending last year at Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference rival Alverno in Milwaukee. She began her collegiate coaching career the year before as an assistant coach at Mount Mary University in Milwaukee, helping the Blue Angels to a school single-season record 10 wins in the 2018-19 season.
Clark was a four-year starter at point guard for the Muskies from 2013-17, where she set the school's all-time career mark with 340 assists. She scored 777 career points, and as a senior helped lead Lakeland to the NACC Tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament, the Muskies' first trip to the national tourney in seven years. Her 113 assists that year rank tied for the fifth-most in a season in school history. Clark also ranks third in school history for career three-pointers with 130 made over her four years.
"Our women's basketball and women's golf programs got better when Kayla joined our coaching staff," said Peterson. "Muskie fans know she was a great player and leader, but her ability to connect with student-athletes and her desire to develop young women makes her a great coach. We are so excited that Coach Clark is back with our Muskie family!"
Clark also served in 2017-18 as head junior varsity coach at her alma mater West Bend West High School in West Bend, Wis. She is a native of West Bend and graduated from Lakeland in 2017 with a degree in exercise science and sport studies.
