The Lakeland University women's basketball team returns from a long layoff to host perennial Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference power Wisconsin Lutheran College for two NACC North Division games, including the first Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.

Fan attendance policy: Under current COVID-19 protocols, Lakeland University is currently not allowing any spectators for home sporting events.

Broadcast Information:  Live audio/video/statistics are all available to follow along with at  http://www.lakelandmuskies.com/muskieslive. Andy Damp is again calling the play-by-play for all home basketball games this year.

Series history: 71st meeting, Lakeland leads 45-25
The Muskies and Warriors resume a series that dates back to 1983. The teams met just once in each of the last two seasons, with Wisconsin Lutheran winning both matchups, including a 69-49 win at Lakeland on Jan. 22, 2020. WLC opened a 21-8 lead after one quarter and never trailed, outrebounding the Muskies 46-23 and holding them to 32.6% shooting. Lakeland's last win over the Warriors was a 58-49 victory at home Jan. 30, 2018, as the Fish spoiled Lutheran's just having appeared in the national rankings for the first time in school history earlier that week.

Lakeland last time out: Won at Concordia Chicago 66-54 Jan. 30th
The Muskies have been idle for nearly two weeks now, after a series at Alverno and a game at Edgewood last weekend were postoned due to COVID-19 protocols. Lakeland last played 13 days ago, taking on and defeating the Cougars on the road in River Forest, Ill. Megan Will continued her strong play early in the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds, Janai' Farr heated up for 12 points on four three-pointers and Kacey Gardner added four points plus 11 rebounds. The game marked the first non-conference contest for Lakeland, matching Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference teams playing in different divisions for this season due to the coronavirus.

Wisconsin Lutheran last time out: Won at Marian 88-33 last Saturday
The Warriors blitzed the Sabres on the road, building a 20-point lead by midway through the second quarter and thoroughly dominating to complete a sweep of the teams' two-game series. Jenna Mace and Ally Gough scored 17 points each and combined for seven three-pointers and freshman Sam Leisemann added 14 points and seven rebounds. No starter played more than 21 minutes but WLC still held Marian to 21.7% shooting in remaining undefeated.

About the Warriors: Wisconsin Lutheran is off to a 4-0 start overall and in the NACC North Division, having also swept two games against MSOE to start the season. The Warriors are coming off a relative down year in the conference, having finished 19-8 last year and 15-5 to place third in the NACC. WLC has been the preeminent women's basketball power in the conference under coach Klay Knueppel, having won the conference tournament every season since 2010-11 except for two. Three starters return from last year including Jenna Mace and Amanda Brug, who were the team's top two scorers last year and are part of a group of four averaging at least 10.0 early this year.

1,000 in sight: Lakeland's Megan Will will be looking to reach a career milestone in the game, as she is seven points away from 1,000 for her Muskies career. Will can become the 14th player to reach 1,000 points at Lakeland and the first since her former teammate Miranda Jacobson did in 2019. She also would be the third to reach the mark in the last four years, including another former teammate Rachel Stankevich who hit 1,000 in 2018.

Two times the Birkholzes: The series between the Muskies and Warriors also includes a matchup of sisters. Kalies Birkholz plays for Wisconsin Lutheran and is the younger sister of Lakeland's Kaity Birkholz. Kalies is a junior guard for WLC and has started the team's first four games, averaging 9.3 points per game and shooting 41.2% from three-point range. Both are accomplished three-point shooters, and Kalies has now passed her big sister for collegiate triples made, with Kalies at 34 in her career and Kaity at 22 made threes with the Muskies.
