WAUKESHA, Wis. – Trenton Nickel (Sr.-Kiel, Wis.), Travis Eitel (Fr.-Pine Island, Minn.) and Kayla Bruton (Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) all recorded top-five finishes, leading a list of strong performances by a number of members of the Lakeland University men's and women's track & field teams at the Carroll University Invite Saturday.

The Muskies sent a small team to their first outdoor meet of the season but finished with nine top-10 finishes in all in sprinting events. The Lakeland men's team scored 20 points, while the women's team finished with six points in the final standings.

Nickel recorded the best finish for Lakeland as the runner-up in the 400 meters with a time of 51.26 seconds. He also added a top 10 in the 200, finishing in 24.25.

Eitel came in seventh in the 110 hurdles preliminaries in 18.45, but improved his time and finished fifth in the event's finals with a time of 18.37. He also placed seventh in the 400 hurdles, clocking in at 1:02.83.

Bruton posted the best finish for the Muskies women's team, finishing a strong fourth in the 200 with a time of 28.00 even. She also came in eighth in the 400, finishing in 1:06.84.

Anthony Romens (So.-Slinger, Wis.) also recorded three top-10 finishes. He came in seventh in the 400 with a time of 52.93 and was eighth in the 200 at 24.30, five hundredths of a second behind Nickel while the two competed in different heats. Romens also raced in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished eighth in 12:25.65.

Besides Bruton, Nydia Brewer (Fr.-Redford, Mich.) and Sahara Gardner (Fr.-Kewaunee) posted the best finishes on the women's side. Brewer finished 16th in the 100 in 14.38, while Gardner was 16th in the 200 with a time of 30.49.

Lakeland next will compete in the Wisconsin Private College Championships this Thursday. Wisconsin Lutheran College will host with events starting at 10 a.m.
