Gillespie to serve as coach for Women’s Team Wisconsin for Wisconsin Wrestling Federation

Lakeland University women's wrestling coach Shannyn Gillespie has joined the coaching staff for the Team Wisconsin women's program for the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation.

Gillespie will volunteer with the Women's Team Wisconsin over the spring and summer as it competes in state and national competitions. He will coach wrestlers at levels including U15, Cadet and Juniors levels and in freestyle and folkstyle.

Gillespie just completed his first season with the Lakeland women's wrestling program and continues his involvement in the sport at numerous levels. He has more than 30 years of national and international experience in the sport, including at the high school and collegiate levels and also involved with girls and women's wrestling at the state level in his home state of Illinois.

Gillespie's coaching experience also includes eight years from 2004-12 at the U.S. Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich. He was a national team staff coach for USA Wrestling, training players and coaches for international competition.

Gillespie has coached at 34 national championships, 12 international tournaments and camps, four world championships and one Pan American championship. He also has been a strong promoter for wrestling, writing for online coaching resources as well as wrestling websites such as American Women's Wrestling and The Open Mat.
