Lakeland University has named
Mason Hawkins as its new head women's wrestling coach, Director of Athletics

Hawkins takes over as head coach of the Muskies women's wrestling program for his first collegiate head coaching position after spending the past three years as an assistant coach with the Lakeland men's wrestling team. He will continue as an assistant with the men's team while adding duties as head coach of the women's team.
"I'm excited for the opportunity and believe in the impact sports can have on student-athletes, and who you become in the process," said Hawkins. "I'm excited to continue to grow in a place I believe in and in the impact it can have on the students who come here."
Hawkins has been a part of the Lakeland men's wrestling program's resurgence under Head Men's Wrestling Coach
Mike DeRoehn, first coming on as a graduate assistant in 2023 before being named the program's full-time assistant coach in 2025.
Hawkins came to the Muskies after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He also wrestled for the Blugolds as well and was a nationally ranked heavyweight as a senior in 2021-22.
Hawkins also was an NJCAA All-American at Rochester (Minn.) Community & Technical College, and in all won 126 career matches as a collegian. He also has helped with Wisconsin's 14U Freestyle and Greco National Team. Hawkins is a native of Farmington, Minn., and graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a degree in psychology and a minor in coaching.
