Eitel wins in hurdles to lead Muskies at Private College Championships

MILWAUKEE – Travis Eitel (Fr.-Pine Island, Minn.) took first in the 400-meter hurdles to lead a trio of Muskies with top-five finishes as the Lakeland University men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Wisconsin Private College Championships hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College Thursday.

The Muskies sent seven student-athletes on the men's side and finished sixth place as a team after scoring 41 points. Three student-athletes competed for the women's team, earning 14 points and a seventh-place finish.

Eitel recorded the best finish for Lakeland, running the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.62 to claim first place. The freshman also finished in third in the 110-meter hurdles with a final time of 18.05.

Kayla Bruton (Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) had the best finish for the women's team, finishing in second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.64. Bruton got her second top-three finish of the day when she ran a 27.40 in the 200-meter dash, good for third place.

Trenton Nickel (Sr.-Kiel, Wis.) also collected a third-place finish, running the men's 400 in 51.79 seconds. He also finished a strong fourth place in the 200 with a time of 24.12.

Finishing right behind his teammate Nickel in both races, Anthony Romens (So.-Slinger, Wis.) put up two top-five finishes. The sophomore ran a 52.52 in the 400 to finish in fourth place while he finished in fifth place in the 200 with a time of 24.34

Tyler Jensen (Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) had a solid day for Lakeland, finishing in 11th place in both the 200 (26.17) and 400 (56.11). Spencer Miesfeld (Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) also came in 11th in the 800 in 2:26.82 and later finished 18th in the 1,500, clocking in at 5:09.20.

Andy Reimer (So.-Sheboygan, Wis.) finished 14th in the 200 (27.22) and 16th in the 400 (1:00.82), while Kevon Holbrook (So.-Bourbonnais, Ill.) rounded out the men's team by placing 14th in the 1,500 run, finishing in 4:35.88.

Lakeland's 4 x 400 meter relay team, comprised of Romens, Holbrook, Eitel, and Nickel completed the race in 3:36.67, good for fourth place.

Besides Bruton, Sahara Gardner (Fr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) posted the best times for the women's team, recording a 14.29 in the 100-meter dash to finish in 14th place and a 30.26 in the 200-meter dash to place 21st. Emily Petersen (Jr.-Menominee, Mich.) picked up a 16th place finish after running a 6:27.78 in the 1,500 and ran the 800 in 3:10.42 to finish 25th.

Lakeland's next meet comes on April 10 when the men's and women's teams travel to Carroll University for the Pioneer Invite at 10 a.m.
