Nickel, Romens 1-2 in 400, Bruton runner-up twice at St. Norbert Invite

DE PERE, Wis. – Trenton Nickel (Sr.-Kiel, Wis.) was part of a pair of victories as the Lakeland University men's and women's track & field teams had another good day at the St. Norbert College Invitational Saturday.

Nickel won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.43 seconds and also anchored the 4 x 400 relay that included Anthony Romens (So.-Slinger, Wis.), Tyler Jensen (Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) and Kevon Holbrook (So.-Bourbonnais, Ill.) and won in 3:32.79. He led a trio of Muskies who recorded top-five individual finishes on the day as both the men's and women's teams finished in seventh place at the meet in De Pere, with the men totaling 47 points and the women picking up 22 points.

Romens was the second half of a dynamic Lakeland one-two punch, finishing just behind Nickel and placing second in the 400 after clocking in at 51.18. Romens also added a third-place finish in the 200, finishing in 23.63.

Kayla Bruton (Jr.-Milwaukee, Wis.) led the women's team once again and also posted two second-place finishes, coming in runner-up in both the 100 (13.18) and 200 (26.84), including running the 100 for the first time this season.

Travis Eitel (Fr.-Pine Island, Minn.) had another busy day competing in four individual events for the Fish. He finished in fifth in both the 110-meter hurdles (a personal-best 17.90) and 400-meter hurdles (1:00.34), 11th in the long jump (5.63 m), and 18th in the javelin (28.98 m).

Nickel also finished in 6th in the men's javelin with a heave of 44.53 meters (146 feet, 1 inch). Spencer Miesfeld (Sr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) ran the 1500-meters in 4:57.13 to finish seventh and the 800-meters in 2:21.43 to come in 15th. Holbrook and Jensen also both earned ninth-place finishes, with Holbrook running the 800 in 2:10.09 and Jensen the 400 in 57.59.

Sahara Gardner (Fr.-Kewaunee, Wis.) joined Bruton scoring points in the women's 200, finishing in 29.42. She also was 12th in the 100 (14.66). Bruton and Gardner also joined Nydia Brewer (Fr.-Redford, Mich.) and Nathalie Cairo (Jr.-Kenosha, Wis.) to run the 4 x 400 in 4:27.20.

Cairo also came in 10th in the javelin with a best of 25.28m (82-11), while Gardner was 15th at 22.82m (74-10). Emily Petersen (Jr.-Menominee, Mich.) also was 12th in the 800 (3:07.66) and 14th in the 1500 (6:16.33), and Delilah Vance (So.-Viroqua, Wis.) was 15th in the 400 with a time of 1:13.14.
