NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Niyasia McCampbell (Fr.-Amarillo, Texas) led a group of three Lakeland University wrestlers to earn wins at the North Central College Women's Open held Sunday.

Campbell won twice competing at 170 pounds, including defeating North Central's Sadie Hill in a 5-0 decision in her opening match. She later added a pin of teammate Meara Hayes (Fr.-Ewing, N.J.) for a second win before being eliminated by technical fall in her next match.

Clare Doering (Fr.-Fenton, Mo.) also picked up a win at 143 lbs., coming back after losing her opener to pin Claire Schaffner of Eureka (Ill.) College in 54 seconds. Evelyn Adekunle (So.-Evanston, Ill.) also won her second match by fall over Maia Foster of Augsburg (Minn.) University in 1:14.

"Niyasia McCampbell is back from injury and provided a spark this weekend with two victories at her new weight class," said head coach Shannyn Gillespie. "The Muskies are improving every week and it is exciting to see."

The Muskies now have an extended break from competition until the new year, next competing at the Northern Michigan University Wildcat Open in Marquette, Mich., Jan. 7, 2023.
