VERNON HILLS, Ill. –
Bennett Braun (
Sr.-Valders, Wis.) and
Mason Valenstein (
Jr.-Sheboygan, Wis.) both recorded top-20 finishes in a full field as the Lakeland University men's golf team opened its spring season at the Forester Spring Invite hosted by Lake Forest (Ill.) College.
Braun tied for 11th and Valenstein tied for 17th to help the Muskies finish eighth of 12 teams competing with a team score of 338. The one-day event was hosted on the par-72, 6,816-yard course at White Deer Golf Club.
Braun shot a round of 78 that included a hot stretch late as part of a 38 on the back nine. He birded three of four holes, including the par-5 14th, the par-3 15th plus the par-5, 565-yard 17th hole.
Valenstein shot a round of 80 and also finished strong with a 38 on the back nine. Though not registering a birdie in his round, he shot par on seven of nine holes on the back nine and in all parred 13 of 18 holes,
Anthony Lueck (
So.-Howard Lake, Minn.) tied for 47th for the Muskies with a round of 88. He shot one birdie each on the front and back nine, including a two on the par-3 eighth hole plus a birdie on the par-4 18th.
Carter Boehmer (
Fr.-Horicon, Wis.) shot a 92 including 48 on the front nine and 44 on the back.
Wyatt Marcy (
Sr.-Pembine, Wis.) added a round of 100 including a 52 on the front nine and 48 on the back.
Aurora University won the team title with a score of 304 and Scott Boyajian took medalist honors with a round of one-under 71.
The Muskies are back on the course again tomorrow for the Wisconsin Lutheran College Spring Invite at Morningstar Golf Club in Waukesha. Play begins at 1:15 p.m.
