MILWAUKEE, Wis. –
Diego Morales (
Fr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.) and
Reagan Bowerman (
Fr.-Munising, Mich.) both earned wins for the Lakeland University men's wrestling team at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational Saturday.
Morales finished 1-2 in the 285-pound heavyweight class, with his win coming in his second match, a pin of Brandon Bray of Cornell (Iowa) College in 3 minutes, 17 seconds. Morales would be defeated by Sloan Welch of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in his next match by technical fall.
Bowerman also posted a 1-2 record while competing at 149 lbs. He lost his first match to Xavier Guerrero of UW-Whitewater by an 18-7 major decision, but then defeated teammate
Shoichi Hashimoto (
So.-Katori, Japan) by fall in 2:02. Bowerman was eliminated a round later, losing to Cael Cox of Central (Iowa) College by technical fall.
The remaining Lakeland wrestlers posted 0-2 records for the day for a reduced squad of eight wrestlers competing at MSOE. The nearest miss by a Muskie came from
Jesse Burg (
Fr.-Cedar Grove, Wis.), who lost his first match at 141 lbs. to Andrew Schad of UW-Oshkosh. Schad won in extra time, prevailing with a 9-6 sudden victory.
Lakeland next competes at the Art Kraft Memorial Tournament hosted by Triton (Ill.) Community College next Saturday in River Grove, Ill.
