Series history: 30th meeting, Benedictine leads 16-13
The Muskies and Eagles get together for their first and only regular season meeting today. Lakeland won the teams' last meeting just under a year ago, taking down Benedictine 69-65 on the road in Lisle, Ill., Feb. 12, 2022, as Ellie Felsinger finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds and Kacey Gardner just missed a triple-double with 15 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. The Eagles won the last meeting at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium, taking a 70-48 victory Feb. 15, 2020.

Lakeland last time out: Won at Marian 77-75 Wednesday
Mackenzie Miller scored the game-winning layup with 2.4 seconds left to give the Muskies a dramatic and hard-fought win. Lakeland took the Sabres' best punch for nearly three quarters, falling behind by 11 points at halftime and by 13 early in the second half. The Muskies rallied to take the lead early in the fourth quarter and built a seven-point lead, only for Marian to come back and tie it with 8.8 seconds left. Kerstin Sauerbrei made six three-pointers for 18 points and also assisted on the winning basket, Miller scored 16, Ellie Felsinger totaled 15 and Brianna Jones added 10 points and eight rebounds. Kacey Gardner also finished with six points, 11 rebounds and nine assists as Lakeland completed a sweep of the season series with Marian to stay all alone in sixth in the NACC standings with three games left.

Benedictine last time out: Defeated Illinois Tech 77-40 Wednesday
The Eagles dominated the second and third quarters to break away from the Scarlet Hawks for the home win. Freshman Sierra Skack scored a career-high 21 points off the bench making 7 of 11 three-point attempts, and as a team Benedictine made a season-best 13 of 28 from long range. Jordan Carlquist also scored 12 points. The Eagles led 21-16 after one quarter but outscored IIT 40-12 over the second and third periods to snap a three-game losing streak.

Benedictine went 0-7 against a tough non-conference schedule but is still alive in the chase for an NACC Tournament berth at 8-7, two games behind Lakeland. The Eagles also have four losses by three points or less in conference, three of those coming against teams inside the top five in the NACC.

Ringing up the numbers: Since breaking former Muskie and current assistant coach Kayla Clark's school record Jan. 18 against MSOE, Kacey Gardner has been piling up assists to ensure she finishes her career well clear of anyone else on the school's all-time assists list. Gardner has 43 assists over Lakeland's last six games to give her 389 in her career, and has been filling the stat sheet of late, averaging 6.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 2.8 steals over her last six games.
