Lakeland University Head Women's Wrestling Coach
Shannyn Gillespie was part of the USA Wrestling team that won the Under-17 (U-17) Pan American Championships held in Mexico City, Mexico June 23.
Gillespie was one of the coaches on the team that won nine gold medals and a silver in a dominating performance, nearly sweeping the gold at the American continental championships. The United States team scored 245 points to win the team title, more than 100 points better than second-place Mexico.
"This was a great experience for Team USA," said Gillespie, "and I would like to thank USA Wrestling, the Mexican Olympic Committee, Danny Struck, the athletes, parents and coaches who all made this possible!"
