KANSASVILLE, Wis. – The Lakeland University women's golf team competed for the second time this season, participating in the Midwest Region Classic hosted at Brighton Dale Links.
The Muskies sent a squad of three to play the two-day event on the par-72, 5,637-yard layout.
Savannah Szalanski (
So.-Watertown, Wis.) was the top finisher for Lakeland, shooting a score of 200 over 36 holes that included a 107 on Friday and a 93 on Saturday.
Szalanski's second round was the best by a Muskie so far this season and included a birdie on the par-5, 407-yard 13th hole, her second-to-last hole after starting on the 15th. She also shot par on five other holes and tied for her collegiate-low round, having also shot 93 last year in a dual against Alverno College at Oakwood Park Golf Course in Franklin.
Skylar Hall (
Sr.-Negaunee, Mich.) also played for Lakeland and shot rounds of 137 and 145 for a score of 282.
Emily Watanabe Graf also competed for the first time, and the junior transfer from Lakeland University Japan shot scores of 175 and 162 to finish at 337.
The Muskies now get ready for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships over the next two weekends. Play opens with the first two rounds Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1, at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill.
