Gates shoots low rounds of the fall for Muskies at NACC Championship

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – Caroline Gates (Jr.-Natick, Mass.) posted three consistent rounds and finished tied for 36th individually for the Lakeland University women's golf team competing at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship, which concluded Monday afternoon at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club.

Gates finished the 54-hole championship with a score of 300 over the three days of competition. She opened with a score of 104 on Friday and then shot matching rounds of 98 on Saturday and Sunday at the par-71, 5,607-yard course, the two rounds her lowest scores of the fall season.

Gates closed out Monday with matching scores of 49 on the front and back nine. Her front nine included a pair of pars, including on the par-4, 300-yard 1st hole and again on the par-5, 435-yard 8th.

The junior opened on the 10th hole, and after a triple-bogey on her first hole settled in and shot no worse than bogey on seven holes in an eight-hole stretch from the 12th back around to the first hole.

Aurora University won the team championship with a three-day total of 931, 39 strokes ahead of second-place Marian University. Ellie Knight of Aurora won medalist honors with a three-day total of 223, eight strokes ahead of her nearest competition.
