Series history:Â 23rd meeting, St. Norbert leads 22-0
The Muskies and Green Knights meet at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium for the second straight season in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play. St. Norbert won last season 62-46 on Nov. 30, 2022, outscoring Lakeland 30-14 over the second and third quarters in a game where both teams struggled to score, with SNC shooting 34.3% and the Muskies 31.7%. The Green Knights have dominated the all-time series, though all but five of the previous games took place between 1976 and 1985, a time when the Muskies and Green Knights were conference mates in women's sports as part of the Wisconsin Independent Colleges-Women's Athletic Conference (WIC-WAC). St. Norbert has won both meetings since joining the NACC in 2021, including a 63-43 win at home in De Pere Nov. 30, 2021.
Lakeland last time out: Defeated Concordia Chicago 54-50 Wednesday
The Muskies won for the second time in conference play this season, holding off a late Cougars rally by taking care of business at the free throw line. Lakeland made 8 of 10 foul shots in the final 47 seconds to hold on after CUC cut an 11 points fourth quarter deficit to one late. The Muskies held firm late after several disappointing finishes losing leads late in games earlier this season and defeated the Cougars for the fourth straight time.
Jenna Caterino matched her career highs with 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals and
Lauryn Johnson added a career-best 12 points plus six rebounds and made 5 of 6 from the line in the final 27 seconds.
St. Norbert last time out: Lost to Wisconsin Lutheran 54-44 Wednesday
The Green Knights and Warriors engaged in a battle of two heavyweight programs in the NACC, but WLC outscored St. Norbert 19-11 in the fourth quarter on the way to the win at home in Milwaukee. The Green Knights trailed just 45-44 with 3:19 left after a three-pointer by Emma Morrisey, but SNC would not score again the rest of the way. Like Lakeland against Concordia Chicago, Lutheran closed out the game at the free throw stripe, making 5 of 6 from the line in the final minute-plus. Taylor Thiry scored 10 points and Rose Hahn added eight for St. Norbert, which shot 35.7% and was outrebounded 41-26.
About the Green Knights: St. Norbert is the defending NACC champion after an undefeated run through the conference last year that included an 18-0 run through the NACC regular season and the NACC Tournament title. SNC finished 24-4 overall, falling to Hope (Mich.) in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Green Knights returned three starters from last year's team, but lost their top two scorers in Kayce Gierczak and Olivia DeCleene, a pair of first team all-NACC performers. Gierczak was the third-leading scorer in the conference a year ago, while DeCleene was the NACC Player of the Year. St. Norbert is off to a 5-8 start against a tough schedule this year that includes four losses to teams from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
