PLYMOUTH, Wis. –
Olivia Hovey (
Fr.-Rio Rancho, N.M.),
Niyasia McCampbell (
Jr.-Amarillo, Texas) and
Khalila Corry (
Jr.-Shelby, N.C.) all finished first in their respective weight classes as the Lakeland University women's wrestling team showed well at its second home Lakeland Scramble event of the season.
Hovey, McCampbell and Corry combined to finish 12-0 on the afternoon, including Hovey and McCampbell both winning five matches each. The trio helped the Muskies to finish second of seven teams competing at the event, with Lakeland's 58 points behind only the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with 62.5 points.
Hovey won three of her first four matches by fall at 131 pounds, including a pin of Hannah Wigern of Augsburg (Minn.) University in 2 minutes, 8 seconds in the semifinals. She then defeated Isabel Jues of Iowa Lakes Community College 11-0 by technical fall.
McCampbell won her first three matches at 180 lbs. by tech fall and then pinned Jessica Komolafe of Joliet Junior College in 2:56 in the semifinals. She then won a 10-1 decision over Toyia Grifin of Upper Iowa University to completed a 5-0 run through her class.
Corry was one of three wrestlers competing in the 207 lb. class and won twice. She posted a win by injury default and then defeated teammate
Francelle Williams (
Fr.-Jacksonville, Fla.) by fall in 5:04.
The Muskies will compete next at the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational hosted by Cornell College this coming Saturday in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
