Series history:Â 26th meeting, St. Norbert leads 25-0
The Muskies and Green Knights meet for the sixth time as Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opponents, since St. Norbert joined the conference in 2021. The teams met twice last year with SNC winning both meetings on its home court, thought Lakeland put a scare into the Green Knights in their last meeting, a 58-52 loss in the NACC Tournament quarterfinals earlier this year. The No. 8 seed Muskies led top-seeded St. Norbert in the fourth quarter and trailed by two with just over three minutes left before coming up just short. SNC also won the last meeting at the Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium, a 64-50 decision Jan. 6, 2024. The Green Knights have dominated the all-time series, though all but seven of the previous games took place between 1976 and 1985, a time when the Muskies and Green Knights were conference mates in women's sports as part of the Wisconsin Independent Colleges-Women's Athletic Conference (WIC-WAC).
Lakeland last time out: Lost to #22 Wisconsin Lutheran 84-50 last Saturday
The Muskies fell to the nationally ranked Warriors in their last game one week ago, as WLC blew open late a game that was competitive for most of the first three quarters. Wisconsin Lutheran finished the game on a 30-10 run, shooting 59.3% in the second half of the win. Lakeland shot just 33.3%, making 19 of 57 shots including 3 of 21 from three-point range.
Alexis Johnson scored nine points,
A.T. Bartlett added eight points and five rebounds and
Jiaryatou Cisse pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Lakeland is still looking for its first home win of the season after dropping its first three at the Woltzen Gym this season. The schedule has not been friendly early in the season, as the Muskies have lost three games against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents and now in Wisconsin Lutheran and St. Norbert face the NACC's tournament champions (WLC) and regular season champions (SNC) from last year.
St. Norbert last time out: Defeated Rockford 81-39 Dec. 3
The Green Knights have been idle for 10 days since blowing out the Regents at home in De Pere. St. Norbert built a 46-16 lead by halftime and led by as many as 48 points, shooting 52.2% from the field while holding Rockford to 36.1% shooting and forcing 27 turnovers. Avery Bierowski scored 16 points, making 7 of 8 shots from the field, and all 14 SNC players to see the court scored in the easy win. The win was the Green Knights' second early in the season against a schedule that also has included nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh plus UW-Eau Claire, Carroll and defending Midwest Conference champion Ripon.
